Homesickness
Jennifer and her husband Rollo just moved to another state for job advancement. Jennifer has begun the process of homemaking, but she feels homesick. This is her first time permanently far away from family, friends, and the routines familiar to her. She is having difficulty adjusting to her new life.
Jennifer not only misses Rebecca her closest friend, she feels severely down at the end of each phone conversation with her friend. This is hard; actually Jennifer tells herself this is too hard. She is not only sad she is despondent. She has begun whining, moaning, and complaining; her husband is not amused. He comes home hoping for support, but he finds that he is burdened to excessively support Jennifer. Their marriage is taking a dive.
What can Jennifer do to improve her situation?
She can begin by getting a grip on her crazy thinking. What crazy thinking, you ask? Well, let's take a look.
Jennifer believes that she should have a completely stable life never to be disrupted like this. She believes that she shouldn't have to begin from scratch, that she shouldn't have to leave her established connections. Actually, Jennifer may not know it, but she believes that life should simply suit her completely. She believes that life should be easy and convenient. If we ask Jennifer she would say that she doesn't believe that, but her despondent attitude says different. She may not realize it immediately, but upon serious reflection, Jennifer can see that she thinks she must get her way—easily and conveniently at that!
Homesickness is tough. It can be the basis of a ruined marriage. It can lead to suicide. Homesickness is not small matter.
Jennifer needs help.
